I watched the “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” series when it aired, but I didn’t remember the final two seasons of the series. I’m not sure why I missed those? Though, when it originally aired, if you missed an episode you probably never saw it again or knew you missed one. Even with this old timey thing called TV Guide.
I looked up why the quality in the series changed and remembered now that it moved channels toward the end of the run. Then a lot of cast change ups that I sort of remember as a kid being odd… yet didn’t think twice about it while it was on air. I vaguely remember few eps from season 6 of this series, like Hilda getting married for some reason. But didn’t recall why the Aunts suddenly vanished from the show. I did remember that the original aunts were much different than the new ones. Zelda was a scientist or professor, and Hilda was the more free spirited musician but then clock shop owner and coffee shop owner at the end.
I started watching the “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” and it has been fun thinking about the different eras of television. Mostly because in the 90s it would not be okay to have a show geared toward teens with satanic references. Sabrina’s parents weren’t dead in the 90s one. Her dad was still alive and she couldn’t see her mortal mom because it would turn her into a big ball of wax. I remembered the 90s version had made the magic spells like “Bewitched” with a nod or a point.
The new aunts made me so amused at the giant departure of their relationship with each other. Hilda is still more so the fun aunt with a kick. Zelda is very… very stern… I’m not sure why I didn’t watch this series when it initially aired. I remember the advertisements for the new version. If only I could go back and ask past me why I missed it. I know the comic that this was based off of was a later release than the original 1960s one. So, that’s why this one is much more darker as the name hints towards.
I haven’t finished the “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” yet. I do enjoy both versions a lot. Too bad that this was the final season of “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” and came under the original run which was 6 or 7 seasons.
